This week I was part of the all female judging team of Women’s International Trophy in Mainz. We had two tasting flights of more than 20 beers each. Hard work, but a good experience for sure.
I went together with two of my esteemed colleagues from Brussels, we all do brewery tours at Brasserie de la Senne, and we got to meet a lot of other female beer professionals.
Great weekend at the #Zythos#beerfestival. This year at a new location in #Kortrijk It was great to help out at the stand of Tipsy Tribe Brewstillery, you all know I love their beers.🤩

This weekend we did a beer tasting workshop. With a lovely small group we tasted beers blindly, judged them and were completely surprised by the winners. We played with macerated flavours and discovered how easily a cassis flavour masks a not-so-great-beer. And we paired several cheeses and chocolates with different beers to see what we liked best. A great way of playing with beer and flavours. I will definitely organise this again.
Special “Beer Tasting & Flavour workshop” at Hoppiness Brussels
Beer sommelier Carien will be hosting an exciting beer tasting and flavour workshop in which we will experience beer tasting in a different way. What does this mean? – We will do two blind beer tastings of two different beer styles to discover flavours without prejudice – We will add different spices and macerated flavours to our beers to experiment and discover our sensitivity to several flavours – We will discover what a slight temperature difference does with beer – We will taste different cheeses and chocolates and pair them with several beers to decide what works best and why
Tickets: 40 euro per person Max. 10 persons for this event so tickets are limitedBeer, cheese and chocolate included as well as tasting sheets.
Jette has a brewery again! Brasserie Taymans had a grand opening day on Saturday the 11th of March. The original brewery, named the Brasserie-Malterie Taymans, was started over 100 years ago. A warehouse was built for maturing Lambic in 1906 and the Brewhouse was ready in 1911 on the other side of the street (Rue Van Huyneghem), just next to what is known today as the Park Garcet.
The main market was in Brussels, and the brewery survived despite going through very challenging times such as both world wars. Pierre Taymans took over the brewery in 1936 and continued the operations despite the limited development options authorized to him on the site.
The brewery ceased operations in 1970 at the retirement of our grandfather, Pierre Taymans and the main buildings took a new life. The family house and adjacent brewhouse were transformed into a youth center welcoming local youth for many years before making way later for an extension of the Park and adjoining school. Now six grandchildren, all brothers, have restarted the brewery and I was happy to be part of the opening day and show people around the brewery.
Tipsy Tribe Brewery & Distillery barreled the first whiskey made in Brussels, Belgium. This American-style Belgian whiskey is a historic milestone for the capital of Europe and the first in a series of other whiskies to be produced by Tipsy Tribe.
Tipsy Tribe Brewery & Distillery (brewstillery) is excited to announce the barreling of the first whiskey made in Brussels! Produced in small-batch and with a unique blend of corn, wheat and barley, Tipsy Tribe has created an American style Belgian whiskey that will be ready for tasting in three years. The barreling took place on the 9th of March, in the presence of distinguished guests and members of the tribe.
Great shot of us trying to get the last drops of whiskey in the barrel.
Made in Brussels The team has taken great care in making this whiskey entirely in-house, including milling of the grains, brewing, fermenting, distilling, and barreling. No pre-distilled products were used in the making of this whiskey. “We believe it is important to be able to make our own alcohol from scratch to truly call ourselves a distillery. As a Brewstillery, we’re able to capitalize on our expertise in brewing as a basis to produce fine spirits,” noted Daniel Fastenau, Brewer-Distiller and Co-founder at Tipsy Tribe. The whiskey was made small batch – approximately 75 bottles. It will be aging in virgin American oak barrels for the next three years at the Brewstillery situated in Koekelberg (Brussels).
More information about Tipsy Tribe on their website.
We still have some spots for the combo-tour with brewstillery Tipsy Tribe this coming Friday. Book your tickets here: https://forms.gle/MVRinrd9T44zXkfW7

Hoppiness is all about good craft beer and having a good time. Brussels and Belgium have amazing breweries and we’d like to share our best beer discoveries with you so you can experience Belgian beer culture in the best way possible.
Winter Ale (10%) brewed by Circus Brouwerij in Zwevegem (Belgium)
This strong dark ale is very rich in spicyness in both aroma and taste. Notes of cinnamon dominate but in the aftertaste it's more like gingerbread. Together with a strong and sweet malty and alcoholic body, it makes for a great beer for a stormy night like we have now in Brussels. Cheers!🍁
BZART Lambiek millesime (7.5%) made by Oud Beersel in Beersel (Belgium).
For this special beer Oud Beersel bottles their lambic with the addition of a ‘liqueur de tirage’, which consists of sparkling wine yeast and sugar for secondary fermentation. It then matures for at least nine months in the bottle before being finished according to the ‘Méthode Traditionnelle'.
This enjoyable brut lambic has a pleasant wild yeast aroma and a refreshing lambic flavour. The carbonisation is quite strong but it also gives the beer a nice and full body.
Hefe Weissbier (5.4%) brewed by Bay. Staatsbrauerei Weihenstephaner in Freising (Germany)
You can't go wrong with this beer from the oldest brewery in the world! Their story started nearly a thousand years ago, in 1040.
This wheat beer has yeasty aromas like clove and banana, a beautiful head of foam and a rich and grainy body. Prost!
Juicy neipa (5.7%) brewed by Loncium brewery in Mauthen (Austria).
A well made beer with a lovely aroma of pineapple and mango. The mouthfeel is juicy and creamy, it has a proper bitterness and a lot of fruity hoppy flavours. The can is nicely decorated with a variety of cartoon characters.
Loncium is the ancient Celtic name for the village of Mauthen.

Dubbel (6%) brewed by Brouwerij Fort Lapin in Brugge (Belgium).
This well made brown ale has a nice aroma of roasted malts. The taste is semi-sweet, with notes of toasted bread, syrup, roasted grains and a hint of red fruit.
Stonehenge lager (4.3%) brewed by Stone Daisy Brewery in Salisbury, Wiltshire (UK).
Visited Stonehenge this summer and brought back this beer as a souvenir. It's a golden lager made from 5 different malts resulting in a lovely biscuity flavour, the hops give it a crisp freshness with some floral notes. Definitely a nice souvenir😊
La Choulette Triple ambree (9%) brewed by the La Choulette brewery in Hordain (France).
This triple is brewed using a selection of pale and amber malts, spices and aromatic hops. The result is a classic triple style beer with a lot of flavour. It has a generous head and releases a pleasant aroma with notes of spices and caramel. The maltly base is rich, grainy and sweet and it has a well rounded bitterness in the finish.
The brewery is one of the oldest still-operating breweries in the Nord of France. Born from the merger of two farmhouse breweries established in the late 19th century, it has since upheld the region's rich brewing tradition.
This weekend I had the pleasure of visiting Modeste Bierfestival in Brouwerij De Koninck (Antwerp). The setup was partially in the brewery itself this year, due to the construction works outside.
Lots of great breweries and their brewers were present, but I sadly did not have the time to visit them all. I enjoyed delicious beers from Boerenerf, Vissers, Uncharted, Galea and Dame Jeanne and some others I forgot to photograph. 😅
Thank you ABC for hosting another great edition. Until next time!
Bock beer (6.5%) brewed by Brouwerij Lindeboom in Neer (the Netherlands).
Now that autumn has officially started it's time to enjoy some of my favourite Dutch beers again: herfstbok 🍁🍂
This is a great example of the style, made from 5 different malts which gives it a complex and tasty body. Roasted malts, notes of bread, caramel and a hint of honey sweetness. Last year marked the 50th anniversary of this #bockbeer which is definitely a special milestone. Yum!👍

La Renaissance Grand Cru barrel aged IPA (7%) brewed by Brouwerij De Dochter van de Korenaar in Baarle-Hertog.(Belgium).
This classic dry hopped English IPA was #barrelaged for several years on white Burgundy barrels.
The result is special for sure! The aroma is quite vinous with hints of fruitiness. The taste is wine-like as well, with notes of wood and malts, but it also still has a lot of presence of hops, especially in the bitter finish. Yum!
Open Brewery Days at Orval 2026 *
Such a beautiful day, I really enjoyed visiting the brewery and finally trying the green Orval, which is only dry hopped and doesn't have any brettanomyces. Definitely a visit I would do again🤩

Super 8 Flandrien (0.0%) blonde brewed by Brouwerij Haacht in Boortmeerbeek (Belgium).
Refreshing and tasty, those two words immediately come to mind when I drink this alcohol-free beer. Malty and grainy but also with a nice hoppy bitterness and some notes of citrus.
(The ingredient list has four E-numbers (colour, stabiliser anti-oxidants). Not something I like to see in beer to be honest.)
