Special beer tasting

We hosted a special beer tasting station at a very beautiful location recently: the residency of an ambassador in Brussels.

Iwein van Aelst - amber beer (6.2%)

Yesterday I was in Aalst in theatre De Werf, where they have a good selection of local beers in their bar. I came across this beer, a project of four locals with the name Iwein, in honor of Iwein Van Aelst. They made the recipe for this beer together and were inspired by their favorite beers: #Orval and #gueze.
This surprising amber beer is definitely somewhere in the middle of these two: malty, fruity and semi-sweet, a mild acidity and a funky aroma. Yum!

In between his walls - hazy IPA (6.5%) brewed by Brasserie L'ermitage in Brussels.
This IPA has a pleasant tropical aroma and nice fruity, hop flavours. It's 6.5% but that was not very detectable, it actually felt quite light.
Recipe and brew were done by their production intern, he finished his two year internship with this beer.

This #winterbeer is malty sweet and has a lot of wintery spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and vanilla. Easy drinking and pleasantly heartwarming.

Esko blond (6.5%) brewed for 'Bier tegen de stroom in' in Sint-Amands (Belgium) at Belgian Contract Breweries. The name of the beer is inspired by the Schelde river (Escaut in french).
The beer has a fruity aroma, the taste is malty and slightly fruity with a pleasant hoppy bitterness. Easy drinking and quite refreshing!

Pepernoten stout (8%) brewed by Two Chefs Brewing in Amsterdam (the Netherlands). Saint- Nicolaas is in the country and that means it's time for #pepernoten (the tiny gingerbread-like cookies in the photo 😊)!
This strong stout beer was brewed with #speculaas spices. The result is a lovely dark ale full of roasted grains, chocolate and caramel flavours, a hint of sweetness from the alcohol volume and strong, tasty notes from spices like cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg.

This beer is a blend of a #saison from La Fluviation and a #lambic from Taymans fermented with whole black currants.
The result is a beer with a beautiful red colour, a fruity aroma and a mild wild yeast (#brett) taste together with a black currant and grainy base.
It was a little flat but the taste was delicious!
