Special beer tasting

We hosted a special beer tasting station at a very beautiful location recently: the residency of an ambassador in Brussels.

Bretty Boop Belgian Red ale with brett (6.2%) brewed by Brasserie des Legendes (Ath) in collab with Brasserie de la Senne (Brussels)

On March 23, 2023, Brasserie des Légendes invited Brasserie de la Senne to create a limited-edition “collab” beer at their Ath brewery. The encounter between Brasserie de la Senne’s knowledge of brett yeasts and Brasserie des Légendes’ barley cultivation resulted in this beer.

The beer gushed quite a lot but there was enough to have a glass. The brettanomyces yeast was very present in both the nose and the taste. It gave a nice wild almost wine like flavour to this malty beer. Tasty!

Saison de Dottignies (5.5%) brewed by Brouwerij De Ranke in Dottignies (Belgium) together with a delicious pasta in a sauce made of green asparagus
The (only) house beer of Nona works well with a lot of dishes. It's a tasty amber with a strong hoppy bitterness, thirst quenching and full of flavour, which makes it a great saison. A yummy combo!

La Triplette (7.7%) Belgian style triple brewed by Soif de Voyages brasseurs in Le Mont sur Lausanne (Switzerland)
A tasty traditional triple beer, full of malty sweetness with notes of clove, orange peel and koriander seeds and yeasty esters. Not very strong in alcohol but full bodied and quite heavy.
Love the label and the name!

Dulle Griet dubbel / double (6.5%) brewed by Scheldebrouwerij in Meer (Belgium).
A tasty Belgian dark ale with a nice aroma of roasted malts. In the taste the dark roasted malts are dominant at first, then there is also liquorice, dark fruits and a little sweetness.

Last weekend I was in Lille and visited one of the brewpubs of 3 Brasseurs. This is a French franchise chain of restaurants that also all have an onsite brewery. This one in the centre of Lille near the train station, is a cozy brewpub with an extensive menu and a big tap list of home brewed beer. I definitely enjoyed sampling some of them.👌

Biri Waterkant tropical lager (4.7%) brewed by Brouwerij t IJ in Amsterdam (the Netherlands).
A refreshing lager brewed with corn and tasty, fruity hops. Nothing fancy, but easy drinking and a nice reminder of holidays in the Caribbean. Originally brewed for Waterkant, a Surinamese place in Amsterdam.

Summer Haze session neipa (4.3%) brewed by Brussels Beer Project.
This beer is light in alcohol and easy drinking. It's full of hoppiness, quite tropical in the nose and mainly citrus/ grapefruit in the taste with some sweeter notes of guava and peach and a good bitterness.

Lowa Trolls IPA (0.3%) brewed by Brasserie Dubuisson in Pipaix (Belgium)
A new beer from this nearly 250 year old family brewery. For this filtered alcoholfree beer they used the natural brewing process and worked with slow fermentation and a specific yeast that barely creates alcohol.
The result is an easy drinking IPA with a good bitterness, notes of citrus and a little malty sweetness.

The taste of this beer is dominated by malts, grainy with hints of caramel and toasted bread. It's quite sweet from the malts and the slightly higher alcohol content and has a pleasant hint of hop bitterness. Nice and easy drinking.

The original Kwak beer in a more modern version of the famous glass in wooden holder. This beer is full of delicious malty flavours: grainy, caramel and biscuit with a velvet smooth semi sweet finish. For me there is only one Kwak, the blonde and red AB Inbev came up with don't count.

I liked the funny hop juggling clown in the middle of the label. The beer has a pleasant fruity hop aroma, in the taste there is some maltiness but mainly a lot of grapefruit and other citrus notes from the hops. An easy drinking thirst quencher.
